No Shaming
Oftentimes when we begin something new, we want things to be perfect. We expect a lot of ourselves. The reality is that those thoughts and expectations are just not sustainable. Why do we expect so much of ourselves to be perfect when adopting something new within our lifestyle? Well, it’s kinda human nature. But, did you know that a person is more successful making healthy habit changes when they remain positive than negative. Oftentimes this shows up as self-talk. You know, the little voice in your head. So let’s talk about the little voice in your head and how it plays such a big role in your success.
Positive Self-talk Benefits
While positive self talk can help you perform better with a task in the short term, the consistent positive self talk can have an impact on your health and general well being as well, like:
- Increase vitality
- Greater life satisfaction
- Improved Immune function
- Reduced pain
- Better cardiovascular health
- Better physical wellbeing
- Less stress and distress [1]
It isn’t completely understood why those who have a more positive outlook experience some of these benefits, but it is suggested that those with a positive mindset have the mental skills that allow them to solve problems, think differently, and be more efficient dealing with hardships. [1]
No Shaming
One thing we make clear during our initial coaching calls with clients is that we all make mistakes, but there is no shaming. Negative thinking can take forms typically in 4 different forms: personalizing, magnifying, catastrophizing, and polarizing. The most common one is personalization; this is when you blame yourself for everything.
As we include personal development coaching within our coaching series, we give you a number of opportunities to develop your thinking through Intrinsic thinking, Growth vs. Fixed Mindset, and the opportunity for self growth through additional resources.
While we work through your program, we also work through the obstacles that your thinking can create. Through intrinsic coaching, we help guide your thinking to find solutions to your challenges and find clarity in your thinking.
FCM Coaching
So when you hear that little voice in your head, stop and see if it is positive or negative. Challenge that voice if it is negative and make it positive. Developing your mindset is a critical part to making a lifestyle change in your health and habits. Learning to identify your negative self talk (or recognize you have a good habit of positive self talk… yeah!) is a crucial part of understanding yourself, the choices you make with food, and how to make positive changes in your health using an individualized nutrition program and developing a routine for sustainable exercise.
